"World Mural Project" involves individual submissions (graphic design tiles) from over 500 young people in 21 countries.

Commemorating the journey of the past 40 years, Intel Corporation has today unveiled what it calls the "World Mural Project", a digital artwork that captures the vision of young people on how computers will transform the world over the next 40 years.

Present at the occasion, Paul Otellini, chief executive officer and president of Intel, said, "Intel has a 40-year history of serial technology breakthroughs and innovation. When we introduced the microprocessor, no one could have predicted that the market for PCs would be greater than 350 million units a year. Over the next 40 years Intel technology will be at the heart of breakthroughs that solve the big problems of health and environment."

The "World Mural Project" could be described as a Web-based digital work of art that includes written and visual content from the "Intel Computer Clubhouse Network", which again is a global community-based after-school technology learning program that enables youth in under-served communities acquire skills necessary for personal and professional success.

For Intel, the "World Mural Project" exemplifies how computers can provide youth in under-served communities with powerful tools to express themselves creatively and establish connect with other communities globally. The project is also Intel's way of giving back a million volunteer hours in commemoration of its 40th anniversary.

"World Mural Project" involves individual submissions (graphic design tiles) from over 500 young people in 21 countries, who've been working in tandem with about 300 Intel volunteers at 70 Clubhouses across the globe. These tiles have been sewn together into one expansive and exciting digital mural that speaks in the voice of today's youth and what they expect from the technology of the future.

The project's creative process has been guided by renowned digital muralist Favianna Rodriguez. Some common themes in the mural include: the growing trend towards smaller, more mobile computing; greener technology; more responsive technology in health care and education; and virtual travel.
