At an event in Mumbai after the completion of acquisition of ATI Technologies, AMD announced Vista-ready ATI Radeon graphic processors.
At an event in Mumbai, soon after the completion of the acquisition of ATI Technologies, AMD announced a line of latest Vista-ready ATI Radeon graphic processors.
The new line of processors aimed at harnessing the richness of Windows Vista includes ATI Radeon X1950 XTX, X1950 PRO, and X1650 XT. According to the company, these processors will deliver the best performance, and the most stable Vista experience.
According to Chris Jones, corporate vice president - Windows Core OS Division, Microsoft, "Microsoft will deliver a series of graphics innovations with Windows Vista that provide a customer experience that is second to none. We could not have achieved this without our partnership with ATI. From day one, ATI has played a key role in helping us design and validate the new driver model at the heart of Windows Vista, and ATI has since developed robust and performant drivers that highlight the capabilities of our new operating system."

What AMD must do is, to introduce the mainstream X1650 Pro cards into India- these are with GDDR3 Memory and approach 7600GT performance. They have declared price of $ 99 (Rs. 4520 ) for these and if they wish to capture India market- they need X1650Pro-which will sell in tens of thousands- & not the expensive X1950,s which can only clock few hundreds sales only- strange that highly overpaid AMD/ATI executive can not even perceive the Indian Market Trends!! Incidentally folks these all are DX9 Cards- but Vista Compliant- Even Vista Aeroglass Does not necessarily require DX-10 compliance.

Don't feel offended, but have you been here, right here, in this world? It's no secret that the Radeon X1650 Pro barely stands up to a GeForce 7600GS, which was originally intended to compete with an X1600 Pro! So, if there's a card that's gonna sell by the truckloads, it's gonna be the 7600GS or even the 7600GT(which by now, would have dropped to around 9k). And next, to the author, there's no way the X1650 XT's gonna reach here for a price of $149 or Rs. 6750. First off, there's something called excise duty that's still in place for Graphic Cards, so even if they are priced at $149, by the time they get here, they'll surely cost around 9000. Next, the X1650 XT will retail for $200, according to TechSpot.

No these are not DX10 hardware. Vista does not require DX10 hardware for running Aero. It just needs DX9, SM2.0 support and considering there won't be many DX10 only games in foreseeable future and first generation DX10 cards would be really expensive and power hungry (and possibly buggy) I suggest you stay away from DX10 hardware for now until there is a refresh and a die shrink.
