400,000 Android Based Phones To Sell By End 2008?

Analysts expect "big impact"
What's odd about that number? It isn't Google going gung ho, surprisingly enough. According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, the Google and T-Mobile partnership will sell 400,000 units of the upcoming Android-based phone by the end of the year.
Executive Director Chris Ambrosio, of Strategy Analytics said: "Google has the brand power in the USA to make a big impact at launch. The main issue will be operator subsidies. As seen with the iPhone and smart devices in general, retail prices need to be well below $200 to be competitive."
As we previously reported, the HTC Dream with Android will be priced at $199, which isn't exactly "well" below the competitive $200. While we wish for it, there isn't a strong possibility that the HTC will be as popular as the iPhone, so we're left wondering whether this analysis will really come true. Then again, never underestimate the power of the Googly-eyed.
