Nice article. But I prefer to turn off the notebook LCD using a much simpler process instead (at least it works on Vista!). If you click on the battery icon on the toolbar, then click on More Power Options, you can Change Power Options, or Create a New Power Plan. If you click on any of those (CPO or CNPP), you will be provided with a few options where you can save power. On this page, you can set a time for the display to turn off after a time specified by you! I would suggest creating your own Power Plan so you can switch to that any time you want to listen to music.
