Turn off your notebook LCD with one-click

A friend of mine complained that even though his laptop is great, it doesn't have a feature to turn off the LCD while listening to music to save battery life. While some manufacturers provide this functionality, many don't. Surely this isn't difficult to implement, but yet no one thinks of these little nifty tricks.

I hunted for a utility in all the usual places on download sites but couldn't find any. However, in the most unlikely place, I found one. A utility created by Taimur Asad over at Redmond Pie provides this functionality. He authored the utility himself as he had a similar use of it. He's been kind enough to offer it free, thanks Taimur! However, this has been tested only in Windows Vista.

Turning Off the Screen!! SUPERB!!

Nice article. But I prefer to turn off the notebook LCD using a much simpler process instead (at least it works on Vista!). If you click on the battery icon on the toolbar, then click on More Power Options, you can Change Power Options, or Create a New Power Plan. If you click on any of those (CPO or CNPP), you will be provided with a few options where you can save power. On this page, you can set a time for the display to turn off after a time specified by you! I would suggest creating your own Power Plan so you can switch to that any time you want to listen to music.
