A collection of a few useful tweaks and hacks for Windows Vista

Next Page

I tinker around a lot on Windows. Many times I need to launch commands through Windows Run console, so I just use Windows Key+R and type out the command. You can also do this by clicking on "Start | Run" in Windows XP's start menu. But where did this go in Vista? Sure the same keyboard shortcut key works but how does one access it without the keyboard shortcut? Why would anyone want to use it like that anyway? Two reasons I can think of... 1. Computing habits 2. Windows Key on the keyboard starts hiccupping. Thankfully there's a real easy way to enable it without any obscure registry trick or additional software hack.

1. Right-click on the blue Start Menu button, click "Properties".

2. Click on "Start Menu"tab and then "Customize".

3. The Customize Start Menu dialog has popped open, now scroll down about more than half, you'll find the "Run Command" window.
4. Click both "OK" buttons.

There now -- you have a nice spanking "Run" command that is easily accessible just like Windows XP. Just be careful with what you launch here.

Hi, the tip is good, but there is another way also to do the same thing. Click START key and there is a "Start Search" area just below "All Programs" which works like "Run" area. So there is no need for a separate ? Run? area.
