A glimpse of QWERTY phones from 2009

From evolutionary changes to better features, the QWERTY phones to be launched next year have them all.

Motorola Q11

The Motorola Q was the company's attempt to create a slim, QWERTY phone with design cues taken from their popular RAZR model. The first iteration worked well in the US. However, the second, the Q9h, was changed in terms of design but added a few more features in its holster. Now we see its third version, the Q11. The shape of the model has changed a bit but the dimensions are almost same, though it has become lighter. It sports the same 2.4 inch, QVGA display. Below it is the familiar keyboard (made out of the same rubbery material) that seems to be as comfortable as the earlier model, if not less.

The design isn't exactly jaw-dropping and pretty much looks like a standard business phone.

It is loaded with a newer processor but surprisingly has reduced RAM and flash memory than the earlier model; the reasons for which is unknown to us. But whether it will affect the performance of the device or not, will be known only after a thorough review. While the Q9h had support for 3.5G (HSDPA), the Q11 has skipped it in favor of Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. Considering the possibility of 3G launch in India being postponed to late next year, it doesn't even bother most of us anymore.

The camera resolution has been bumped up to 3.2 mega-pixels. Also added to the feature list is GPS. It will be pre-loaded with the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. Thus we see that the Q11 is more of an evolutionary change to the Q series. While the feature-list may miss a few things that the Curve 8900 has, one thing that Motorola is "king" at pricing. Thus the Q11 could probably become the value for money QWERTY phone of the next year.

We are missing on Asus and i-Mate offerings. Worldwide, motorola and nokia are not even considered for PDA phones. Black Berry and Palm use their proprietory OS and hence are not versatlie for all applications. We expect at least techtree to do a informed and comprehensive survey.

I'm not big fan of front QWERTY display so I'm not egger to see this phones in action. I prefere slider QWERTY phone so that front can be utilized for wide display screen. The G1 looks very intersting, I wont buy this version of mobile but definately I'll look forward to the second version of it.

if dayanidhi maran were the it&comm. minister, 3g could have been implemented so far. now we have lost the hopes.maybe the next govt. we can see no vital signs for 3g.
