Microbatteries to power implantable medical sensor

Aug 25, 2008 1140 hrs IST

This is the first time microcontact printing has been used to fabricate and position microbattery electrodes.

The engineers at MIT are extra busy these days as they have developed a method of creating and installing microbatteries that could give rise to devices such as implantable medical sensors. This is the first time that microcontact printing has been used to fabricate and position microbattery electrodes and the first to use virus-based assembly in such a process. This breakthrough will no doubt change the way we use devices in the future.
