Didn't see the invisibility cloak, did you?
While we still have to come to terms with the invention of the invisibility cloak, scientists at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China are already out with an anti-invisibility cloak. You might think that this was research by rival scientists to counter the cloak, but it is, in fact, for a totally different reason.
The invisibility cloak works by bending light around the wearer, using special "meta-materials" that use electronic components to do the magic. However, the materials are so good at their job that they leave the wearer in total darkness--not very handy for future Bonds. The anti-invisibility cloak does just the opposite, and lets some light reach the wearer as well, drastically cutting down the probability of stubbed toes and bonked heads.
Don't expect this to hit the real world any time soon--according to Sebastien Guenneau at the University of Liverpool, "It's very hard to make an invisibility cloak--it's going to be twice as hard to make an anti-cloak."
