Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) has announced forthcoming arrivals; its first three 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray Discs (BD).

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) has announced forthcoming arrivals; its first three 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray Discs (BD).

Out of the three, the first one is a comedy flick, "Click", starring Adam Sandler, Christopher Walken, and Kate Beckinsale, which will be available in stores from tomorrow, October 10, 2006.

The second one is an action flick from director Ridley Scott of Gladiator fame, called "Black Hawk Down," and stars Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, and Eric Bana. It features new Blu-Wizard technology that supports enhanced interactivity, and will be available to film fans beginning November 14.

The third and the final one is the hilarious box office hit, "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," starring writer/ producer Will Ferrell and John C Reilly. This BD will be seen on store shelves by December 12.

All three titles have been authored by the Sony Pictures Digital Authoring Center (DAC), and manufactured by Sony DADC.

In a statement, David Bishop, president, SPHE, said that as consumers make the leap to Blu-ray's incredible high-definition picture and theatre quality audio, they will want access to a diverse selection of content, packed with added-value features and reference titles like Ridley Scott's powerful war epic "Black Hawk Down", that will add to their growing Blu-ray Disc libraries.

Bishop added that they are proud to be the first studio to deliver a 50GB Blu-ray Disc title to the marketplace with "Click" on October 10, along with two other highly entertaining titles this year that offer the expanded capacity and special features only a 50GB disc can provide.

what a waste of gigabytes! Sony ppl could have all their 2006 production movies in divx in a 50 GB disc. Wouldn't that have been cool?

Bah! Did you even bother to research the capabilities of the 25gb disks BEFORE deciding that it was a waste of space?!? One of the most important aspects of the BD-ROM technology (which is backed by Sony but not created by them) is the information transfer speed, which allows RAW, UNCOMPRESSED audio. This means that the sound of a movie or music video would "feel" the same as a concert hall. This means that producers no longer have to swap bytes with video, nor lose data via leaky compression schemes. Then look at the fact that you CAN place HD content on a BD-ROM disk. Perhaps in the future, you should consider researching things before jsut blasting them...

anyone that supports HD-DVD is going to be really sorry when Blueray blows them away. Waste of gigs?!? The movie isn't the only thing that is on these disc. Extra, commentary, etc... all HD quality. Not to mention the price will be a considerable change as soon as PS3 comes. Microsoft and Toshiba is going to die in this market that is totally controlled by Sony and most likely always will be. The end.

With MS rolling out HD for Xbox for 200 bucks...Blue Ray will die a horrible death.

Blu-ray, X-ray, whatever. We won't even be using discs in three years. What's the point?, I don't have a movie screen in my house.

I recently did the math and 2.7 hours of HD video will fit on a 15GB disc.... what with a 50GB disc? HD-DVD is the way to go its cheaper and plus they are lanching hybrid dvds soon (allows you to watch HD movie on an HD player or a stanard DVD player, but without the High def.)
