OpenOffice 3.0.0 Beta
(Productivity Tools)
OpenOffice 3.0.0 Beta is a freeware office suite. Think of it as the Microsoft Office but with one slight difference -- it's free. Well supported and having the distinction of being the number one office suite on the Linux platform, no matter the distro it was then ported to Windows and Mac and now is a formidable opponent to Microsoft Office.
OpenOffice 3.0.0 Beta is the public beta. If you are not comfortable with using betas you could revert to the stable version which is 2.4. For those of you who worry about compatibility with Microsoft Office, there is support for all the Microsoft Office formats.

I have been using open office forever and have never felt the need to go back to microsoft office. Open office is more customizable than MS office. I can't imagine someone shelling out 5000 Rs when a better free alternative is available
