Ten Reasons Why I Hate the Nokia 6260

Ten Reasons Why I Hate the Nokia 6260

Aalaap Ghag, Aug 19, 2005 1010 hrs IST

Talking into it that way looks like you're holding up a mousetrap next to your ear.

This is not a review. This is just a list of ten reasons why I hate the Nokia 6260.

1. It's a brick!

2. Open it up and its even bigger. Talking into it that way looks like you're holding up a mousetrap next to your ear.

3. You need to open and twist it and look ridiculous to use the camera.

4. You can't operate it with one hand (flip it open, use a function or two, shut it) without making a conscious effort.

5. It's a pain to SMS with, as half the buttons (directions and the delete key) are on the top half and the rest of the keys are on the lower half.

6. MP3 output is mono and is not the best quality.

7. Camera is just VGA (640x480) quality.

8. Series 60 UI is just fudgin' slow.

9. You cant set the location of the incoming messages to the memory card, so files beamed via Bluetooth or IR better be below 4-ish mb, or the memory will run out.

10. In the past month or two, six people I know have bought the phone even after me telling them all these reasons.

I want my SGH-E730 right now.

Hi Sandeep just read your email and the typical cut copy paste reply of the Nokia service centre. You must remember that no more can manufacturers take us consumers for a ride and get away with it. I sugggest you start proceedings in the consumer court against Nokia and the service centre. Its not expensive and easy to do. You can also claim compensation for your travelling expenses and for causing mental distress. Keep the job sheets and copy of all your emails ready to show that you tried to get in touch and Nokia sent you some shitty replies back. All the best!

Now sir plz try to understand I am not having any other mobile and every day I need to borrow mobile handset either from my friends or relatives to carryon my job. So Sir I really beg you that plz give my mobile duly repaired or kindly returne it by stating that you cant repair it because it?s already too much time have been taken by you. Yesterday I got a call from your office that your mobile is replaced and you can pick you mobile handset then I again visited your office today early in the morning to collect my handset after spending Rs.200 petrol to cover the distance from Paschim Vihar to Okhla and took a half day from my office which would be deducted from my salary and what I found over there that my handset is replaced with non repaired handset with black colour phone since I have given Silver colored phone. And what they said we have only black colours if you want to take a silver colour then you have to wait another 10-15 days and on the very same time I made a call to nokia customer care and they also said plz hold we?ll sort-out and I was holding over there for at least 45 minutes on phone and ultimately I disconnected the line and you can also check the call duration from Nokia of No.9818175708.Now you tell me what would do you do if it could happened to you. Neither Nokia duly repairing my handset nor they are able to swap it with new phone sir it is a new phone I bought it on 13th May?2006 and for the last one month it is with you so you can easily calculate how much older is my handset. Now for God sake plzzzz tell me what should I do as I have already spent Rs.1000 (Appx.) through conveyance, half days salaries, calls made to you and Nokia customer care and some works which could be done if I got my phone duly repaired on time. Sir I would like to draw your kind attention towards the procedure adopted by the Bright Point (Delhi) for my mobile handset. I started facing problem in this handset after three months in hands free sound adjustment and then I sent my handset through my office executive to Bright Point for the same problem but instead of repairing my handset they changed the hands free kit by saying that there was a problem in my hands free and there is no fault in handset at all. But when I got my handset back the same problem still existed. Then I again send it to Bright point through my office executive for the same problem and they committed that there is problem in handset and kept the mobile and told me to wait for a week and issue me job sheet. When I sent my executive on due date of job sheet they gave my mobile and said mobile handset duly repaired but again it was not repaired as the same problem still existed. So on that date I have decided to go personally. On 13th Septemberā??2006 I visited Bright Point and was attended by Mr.Sanjeev at counter no-09 and again he assure me that your mobile handset is repaired and you can check it now and if you find any problem then tell me, so I checked my handset but the problem was still existing. Then Mr.sanjeev told me wait for some time in waiting room and I waited for at least one hour over there and I was finally committed that there is one part is to be replaced in this set and itā??ll take more then two hours so you can pick your handset in the evening. So when I call in the evening they said itā??ll take more than a week. Now I called them today they again telling me that itā??ll more than 10 days. Sir this is my whole story to you plz tell them either repair my hand set or swap it if it is not in the position of repairing because already three job sheets have been issued to my handset. Kindly look into the matter and confirm one date for delivering my handset duly repaired or otherwise changed the phone as I am facing lots of inconvenient and have no other handset for use. Matter most urgent, plz expedite on priority. Sandeep Rathore 9818175708]]

This really sucks! i changed my 4th handset again a nokia this time i tried the 6021 well, the phone is good but guess what 3 months the phone conked out and then the bigger problem strikes- the great nokia service center tragedy after you have given your phone for repair. This is like AIDS- think it can never happen to you but guess again -? i never thought that nokia centers would respond so badly their own phones dont work their manager does not respond, and the last time i called they said they could not tell me the status of my phone since they had no power and their computers were down. I sincerely hope someone from the the real nokia would do something. By the way this is HCL Nokia care in shivajinagar, infantry road bangalore.

i had purchase a nokia cdma 2112 in 2005 june from chennai. It is less than a year old. T wo months back it started giving me problems. the calls kept getting cut and it gave a message saying signal faded searching for network. i gave it to the authorized centre in chennia and got it repaired. after that i relocated to bombay. since past two weeks again i had same problem. i again gave it to a nokia centre here for repair and i get a reply saying it cant be repaired. it has ben badly tampered with. i have not given my cell for servicing outside anywhere else. and i was told i need to pick up a new cell. i presume if it is within warranty period nokia should be taking care of it. to add to that the service at the centre was extremely rude and i was asked to literally get out. i called up and the nokia customer care centre and i was transferred from one operator to the other and i had to explian my problem five times and finally they cut it .they said its non of their business. they cant do anything about it.

The writer of this article, Mr.Monkey who hails from the deep jungles of the Amazon, if you hate this phone so much, why don't you switch over to Nokia 1100 or if u insist on Samsung I think the Reliance Blue Samsung Dabba of Rs.500 would be great for you. Probably with your level of smartness (Eg: Series 60 UI is slow) you will just about learn how to use it, & it will suit you & your personality well. Secondly, twisting the phone to click photos is COOL according to me (Ever seen anyone use a Handycam?? It looks like that. Prolly they dont have Handycams in the Amazon Jungle.) So stop haggling over something that was your decision in the 1st place. You made the mistake of buying it, live with it. There are equally a lot of people who are already using it with no problems whatsoever, including me.

6260 is unique n when u hold it u feel special n then do not be so blunt in criticising as it hurts the one who owns it n do not have any problem with it as yet. n who says that things have to be perfect all the time. nothing is perfect in this world. kindly find out its positive points. whatever i love it!!!!

1. It's a brick! Reply: Yes it is 2. Open it up and its even bigger. Talking into it that way looks like you're holding up a mousetrap next to your ear. Reply: Now thats exaggeration 3. You need to open and twist it and look ridiculous to use the camera. Reply: d00d, chill !!! 4. You can't operate it with one hand (flip it open, use a function or two, shut it) without making a conscious effort. Reply: duh !!! 5. It's a pain to SMS with, as half the buttons (directions and the delete key) are on the top half and the rest of the keys are on the lower half. Reply: Agree with that 6. MP3 output is mono and is not the best quality. Reply: yes, even 6600 and Qd have that 7. Camera is just VGA (640x480) quality. Reply: In Clamshell, you usually get VGA and not 1.3MP cam, name 1 phone that is cheaper than N6260 and has a better camera. 8. Series 60 UI is just fudgin' slow. Reply: It has a 123Mhz processor. Only N6630 or newer handsets have 220Mhz pro. AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE POWER OF SYMBIAN OS. 9. You cant set the location of the incoming messages to the memory card, so files beamed via Bluetooth or IR better be below 4-ish mb, or the memory will run out. Reply: LOL, read the above point, YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT POWER OF SYMBIAN OS 10. In the past month or two, six people I know have bought the phone even after me telling them all these reasons. Reply: I have seen people using N6260 are they r pretty happy with it FINALLY you said "I want my SGH-E730 right now." Ever considered MOTO RAZR V3i, its cheaper than any day better than any other clamshells in the market. "aur kuch kehna hai ???"

why not go for e398.......its the worlds most modded phone u can get ur hands. u can mod the software is such a way that the phone can even have video recording though it does not come with one. :))) i have it for the past 6 months and m not gonna part with it. plus its 2 speakers and the output no Nokia or SE can beat and till now no phone comes with 2 speakers :)

Hey buddy, I m looking for a phone with video rec and MP3. I wonder how can we use e398 as Video rec? Also, can you suggest one phone between k700i, nokia 6260, 6600 and e398?

hi motofan, it's true! i am also a proud owner of the E398. everybody drool over the the sound quality be it speaker or headphone. but how you manage to do video recording? i am also looking for moni SD card from which company & for how much? i am not complaining but is it worth to invest in original FM haedset? thanks!
Aditya
,Hyderabad, on Mar 13, 2006 11:17 AM
Totally agree. You can even reflash the software yourself with the provided datacable. And moto modders on the net keep releasing new software (i mean whole new OS for the phone) Mine now functions as an iPod (it connects to iTunes and i can upload songs to it) and sound quality ROCKS!!! Who needs an mp3 player?

To add video recording follow this guide. http://mirror.softcox.com/e398-to-ROKR/ For more info go to www.hofo.com or www.motomodders.net

Well guess u have 10 reasons...I am a NOKIA die hard fan...honestly my 6210 is still in service sans any problems. your 11th reason is to choose another NOKIA. I am sure u will find some from many models. In fact not many make without all the camera and stuff.. most of the corporates now a days do not allow you to take such phones with you if u a visitor!!! cheers!!

Dude,i picked upa Nokia 6600 5 months back, and its already been to the service centre 5 times! The damn software hangs like crazy! I was using a p800 before this, and my other phones were all SE.But in the last 5 years of owning ericsson/SE phones, i visited their service centre only once! I was planning on exchanging to a 6260,but after reading your article,i am going back to the SE family!

Well, 6260 is no great phone. But this is the first time I heard about a malfunctioning 6600. I'm using one since Jan, and it works perfectly. Well, the 2x zoom in 6600 is a big joke, the UI is slow, and the camera is not MP, video recording is only 10 seconds etc. etc.(But then 6600 is a 2003 May model). I don't think there is any major defect. May be you need to give the Nokia Service centre guys a solid firing. 5 times to the service centre is just too much to tolerate. They should replace the set immediately. I am sure those fellows are fooling around. Regarding Sony Ericsson, I think their buttons are not too good. It is not as tough as a Nokia

dear zack, you really shouldn't have dipped your N6600 into a bucket of nimbu paani five times once in a month. no superduper phone can survive this kind of misuse, be it Nokia or Sony Ericsson. I recommend you use a BSNL or MTNL landline phone for all your purposes. this way you won't be tempted to soak your phone in nimbu paani once every month, because landline cables and wires make it difficult!

I completely agree with Mr. Aalaap Ghag. All the above reasons are 100 % correct to hate Nokia 6260. I am also using the same phone and I think I have wasted my money by purchasing this handset. Now, I have decided to file a complaint against Nokia company to recover damagees.

Ghag, you need to understand why this column has been given to you in the first place. It's not to discuss your cellphone. It's to put forth a relevant point pertaining to personal technology and the usage thereof. What you have written is complete rot. And where is Varun Singh? We miss him like crazy. Reasons 2 hate.............i dont see any!!!!!!!!! 1)My 6260 has MSVe drive which helps to put the messages on memory card straight away!!!! 2)My 6260 has a 2 megapixel camera software and takes high resolution photos that go upto 800kb. 3)6260 supports a 1gb memory card. 4)The turn around camera is funky and different from all other morose types of cameras.Guess u r too geeky to like such cool stuff. 4)6260 has 8mb inbuilt memory and entered the market when 6600 and ngage could offer only 6mb and 4mb respectively. 5)Moreover who wants a phone that will just shut down with 1 hand snap!!! 6)In short ur frndz are smart.....go on catch up with them....its not late yet.

I've the 6260 from December and think it is quite a nice buy - suits my needs perfectly. For everybody complaining on its brick size, ever noticed how sturdy this phone is? Mine has been dropped many times, once rattling down 2 flights of stairs and never even switched off... Couldn't say that for any other makes other than Nokia (maybe the older models of Ericsons)

I bought the SE k750i last saturday, dude it ROCKS!.. well nothing is perfect, you will always come across one or two things that you will dislike.. for example a slightly lower volume output or the closely knit keypad..but these are minor things that one can get used to after sometime can thus be overlooked. However, i repeat the phone ROCKS! and it's worth every rupee of the 18,500 i paid for it.

Hi, I have Nokia 6225 CDMA phone with Reliance connection. I am facing strange problem. I am from Delhi and in few areas in Delhi (Hiranki/Samaypur/Badli etc in North Delhi) the phone shows place as BAGHPAT (which is in UP and about 100 KM from these places). Hence it becomes STD and costly to use. Complaint has been given to RELIANCE but as usual they are checking it. One more intresting fact, i.e with NOKIA handset , in these areas it is always BAGHPAT, whereas with other handsets ie MOTOROLA/LG it is changing from Baghpat to Delhi off and on , so one can move few mtrs and get Delhi. Can any one advise what is happening?

Your reasons dont seem to be completely justified. 1. It's not a brick. It's a Clamshell 2. Series 60 screens have a resolution of 176 x 208 pixels. Thus the size of the phone has to be in accordance. 3. The whole innovative-ness comes in because the camera works like a twist-able camcorder. 4. Your not supposed to operate ANY clamshell with one hand. 5. It is the first phone to use the Bluetooth keyboard in case you are addicted to frequent messaging. 6. All series 60 phones upto FP2 offer mono output limited to 7. Megapixel cameras are a feature of the 7610 and later models. 8. Series 60 UI is the best UI available for smartphones for the future. The 6260 has the same ARM Processor as the 6600. 9. Series 60 2nd edition permits storage directly to Memory card if you connect with a USB cable. So please read up your documentation correctly. 10. People understand things that are beyond your comprehension. Who even LETS THIS GUY WRITE HERE???

More are the issues with the 9500, The Software just keeps on crashing. Not Only the Phone even the Customer care of "NOKIA' is of the same level, Try calling them with any problem and you will know, it's better to bang your Phone or yet better your Head against a Wall rather than than calling them. It's time Techtree gives a review on the problems with the 9500 and the multiple problems associated with it's Software and the troublesome customer care of "NOKIA"
